Tobacco Caye, complete seclusion

Tobacco Caye, complete seclusion

Tiny Tobacco Caye is a 5-acre island catering to travelers on a low-to-moderate budget, located off Dangriga at the northern tip of the South Water Caye Marine Reserve. Diving, fishing, snorkeling and hammocking are the favorite pastimes here.

One of the best things about this little hideout is that there is good snorkeling to be done right off the shore. The island can be circumnavigated in less than 20 minutes and while some of the islanders run fishing boats, tourism is the prime motivation.

There is nothing here by way of shops or services, expect what is offered through the handful of hotels. If you’re expecting a full-service luxury-resort experience, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a secluded spot to get away from it all, this is the way to go. Here it’s about old guest houses, run by families who have lived on the island for years.

The island has no restaurants; meals are furnished by the island lodges and prices are included in the cost of rooms. Both Reef’s End and Tobacco Caye Lodges have bars.

Lonely Planet

Definitely seclusion at its best. That is part of Belize’s beauty and magic. Tobacco Caye transports you to a time long ago, where the luxuries of everyday life were nice and simple. This is certainly a place to get away from it all. Ultimate privacy, tropical destination, Tobacco Caye is for sure the place to go to.
