Rio on Pools

Rio on Pools

Address:
Mountain Pine Ridge
Mile Marker 18 1/2 Pine Ridge Road
San Ignacio
Belize

Description: Rio on Pools features a wide, open expanse of pine forest, and small waterfalls that cascade over large granite rocks, ending in round pools connected by natural waterslides.

After a scrumptious and filing breakfast at Macaw Bank Jungle Lodge, Cori and I return to our vehicle and point it towards the Caracol Ruin. We enter the gates of the Mountain Pine Ridge Area, a Forest Reserve established in 1944. We continue our trek up through winding roads and tall pines surrounding us. The smell of fresh air is hard to miss and for sure, we are among the only ones in this stretch of land. We arrive at our destination and its complete awe and marvel. Talking the steps down to the pools all you hear is the rush of the water, you can already envision it’s white foam being carried swiftly away by the rapid waters as they crash on large granite rocks. That, what you are envisioning is just what it is, truly outstanding. Cool, tranquil pools form between the massive rocks that stretch as far as they eye can see.

You can chose to either get in the water and enjoy a cool, refreshing dip or simply sit and stare at nature, climb the rocks, slide down the rapids, or sit under a waterfall. Arriving there in the early afternoon allows for much to do and so much ground to explore. Rio on Pools are a great way to spend the day with your partner. For most of the time that we were there, we were alone with nature.

On your next visit to the Cayo District, make sure you give the Rio on Pools a try. Trips can be arranged either through your hotel or any of the various tour companies in San Ignacio Town.
