Banh Mi Belize

Banh Mi Belize

Gay owned Banh Mi Belize has now been opened for a month and as the kinks get worked out, the Vietnamese and Thai influenced meals have gotten quite a following. Owner Cori, Canadian by birth, has always been “foodie” loving various culinary experiences. Having lived on the island of San Pedro for a year now, she realized that what she missed most were the Banh Mi Subs from back home – that sparked the idea of Banh Mi Belize. Cori partnered with Anna Hauserer, owner of Lola’s Pub to house the new food adventure and Banh Mi Belize got a home.

Starting from her apartment, Cori began preparing the subs “to go” in the beginning, and once she opened at Lola’s Pub, expanded the menu to include other of her Thai and Vietnamese favorites. The menu at Banh Mi Belize now includes appetizers, main and desserts. Appetizers are ordered throughout the day and enjoyed in the relaxed pub setting offered at Lola’s. Customers nibble on their Spring Rolls, deep friend and stuffed with ground pork and shrimp, or Salad Rolls, rice vermicelli noodles with shrimp, wrapped in a thin rice paper while playing Jenga, card or dominoes. The daily soups have also become a hit, delicious Thai Coconut Chicken Soup is spicy good and just one of the many soups that Cori prepares. Other favorites include the Banh Mi Tacos, Fish Ceviche (not your traditional ceviche but includes marinated fish in ginger and mint).

Open ever yday except Sundays, Banh Mi serves food from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. What started the Banh Mi craze still is a mainstay of the menu. Banh Mi Subs with your choice of either chicken, beef, shrimp or fish. The beef cuts, as well as the pork shoulder is free range meat from the mountains of the Cayo District ensuring the freshest, most tender quality. Standing high among customer favorites are the curry’s, either red or green (each night is different) and chicken, shrimp or fish at different night. You can keep in touch with Banh Mi’s Specials via their Facebook account.

Banh Mi Belize menu is so unique to the island, I mean, where else would you get Vietnamese charbroiled pork with rice vermicelli or as its known in Vietnam, Bun Thit Nuong (Rice vermicelli noodle salad with char-grilled meat, bean sprouts, lettuce, mint, and rice vermicelli salad served with our specialty nuoc cham sauce) or get the Gado-Gado, a traditional Indonesian salad (delicious crisp warm salad comprised of spinach, cabbage, bell peppers, shredded carrots, hard boiled egg, potato, over coconut white rice and topped with a peanut sauce).

For dessert, how about a Banana Spring Roll served with a coconut ice-cream rum shot or the Banana Hazelnut Wontons (deep friend wontons are sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, these are deliciously filled with Nutella and bananas)

Every Wednesday, Lola’s enjoys the acoustic beat of Gino from 7:30 onward. Enjoy nice guitar strums while you dine and chat it up with bartender Anna. Cori welcomes you! Banh Mi Belize from Lola’s Pub, welcomes you every day except Sunday from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. Lola’s Pub remains open until 12:00 midnight.
