Sushi in San Pedro

Sushi in San Pedro

I was given the opportunity to review Nautica Seafood Grill and Bar in San Pedro the other night, and as I arrived and was seated I was given the option to try some dishes from the sister restaurant, Fusion. Both Nautica and Fusion found their home in the longstanding palapa located in the center of town,  Fido’s Courtyard. Both restaurants offer their own unique culinary experience and ambience. Fusion is a Japanese inspired sushi and noodle house while Nautica offers Caribbean views  which I thoroughly enjoyed as I was seated at lantern lit table over looking the stunning azure colors of the Caribbean waters.

The menu at Nautica Seafood Grill and Bar aptly follows through on it’s name sake and offers a remarkable selection of fish, shrimp, lobster, conch, and even scallop based dishes. There are a few meat dishes, but seafood is for sure the main reason to make a reservation there. The owner Nancy Nida lets me know what the specials of the night were, for both Nautica and Fusion, and they all sounded so good, it was really hard to make a choice.

I decided to go for the “Special of the Night” sushi roll at Fusion, which was a combination of tuna, cucumber, bell peppers, and a creamed crab mix, both on the inside as well as topped on the outside for $17 BZ. The presentation was stunning, and was shockingly perfect. A true flavor explosion! With this, I decided to stick with the Fusion menu for the rest of our dinner. I followed that with a tuna based California Roll for $14 BZ, and the Midnight Special roll which was blackened shrimp and scallops, green onion, sweet red bell pepper, tempura battered then fried for $16 BZ. The Nigiri options here, and anywhere in San Pedro are limited, but at Fusion the tuna was fantastic, I got 3 pieces for $15 BZ. Following with 2 more rolls, the Spicy Tuna for $16 BZ, and the Fire Island which was a combination of shrimp, crab, salmon, spring onion, spicy aioli and Hot Sauce (Siracha) for $17BZ.

For sushi in San Pedro, Fusion is definitely the place to go. The restaurant itself if is small and quaint and even has seating at the sushi bar where you can watch the masters Miss Sylvia and Shelly roll your delectable meal. After your dinner you can step back downstairs to Fido’s and enjoy a night of live music and dancing, at one of San Pedro’s most happening night spots.
